weather and conditions

(Too) warm, perhaps -2 during the night at 2400m and very hot during the day 30 degrees in the sun!

some snow traces and neve on the path below the Cabane d'Urets but no real snow coverage until 100m above the hut. Snow extremely changeable almost step by step. Crust, windslab, unconsolidated powder and concrete. Also quite a bit of sastrugi. Snowshoes not required - crampons a must. Last 300m below the Port banked out and final snow slope to be traversed below the Port steep (40 degrees), exposed and extremely fragile windslab, high avalanche risk (not bonded to ground below). Retreated just 20m from Port.

timing

16.30/2.30 to hut and overnight stay then 8.30/3.30 to Port due to poor snow conditions and heavy sack
