La Duchère

Slab climbing, with some overhangs, especially in the steep "Drilling" sector. Lots of choice at at F4 to F6, less up to F7a+. Single pitch and longer routes up to 5 pitches. Good site for learning multipitch climbing.

A comparatively new site, the result of a lot of hard work by the Contamines-Montjoie guides.
It is divided into 6 sectors:
UCPA sector: (to the left): 18 routes from 4c to 6b (15 to 30m).
This sector is not very popular as the rock is mossy. The three, 30m routes on the right (5c-6b) deserve to be cleaned as they give good climbing.
Grande Falaise and Cassalogne sectors, where there are some long, easy routes.
Lys sector: (to the right of the Grande Falaise): Very enjoyable routes of 15-20m, 5b to 6c( with most of the route being 5b-5c. Some 3 pitch routes).
Amphithéâtre sector: (below the Lys sector) Beginners area, popular with groups. Short routes (10-15m), from 3 to 6a+. The right hand end is great for kids who still have a slight fear of heights.
To the right of Lys:
Symphonie d'automne sector: 6 routes of 6b+ to 7b (15-20m), overhanging
Drilling sector: 9 routes from 6b to 7c+ (25-30m), overhanging

Remarks

Prone to water seepage in places. 3 days after rain the route "le vent siffle"(5b), "les campanules"(5b),"les ancolies"(5c), "les benoites" (6a+) in the sector Lys are often wet. The sector Ampitheatre dries more quickly, with the exception of "Blanchot"(5b) et "Titourson"(5c).

From the car park opposite the Notre-Dame cable car, go into the "parc des loisirs" and then follow the signs "Escalade" on a good track.
