description

Approach

  • From the Grands Montets top station, descend westwards.
  • Follow the right hand edge of the Grands Montets Glacier to its end.
  • Walk along the base of the Bayere wall (cairns) toward an area with large boulders. The path becomes more and more evident.
  • Keep going down to reach the end of the spur.
  • A ski pole broken into 2 parts indicates the start of the route. A belay with two bolts at the base of a corner is visible.

Route

L1 3 20m Gain the belay with 2 bolts at the base of thcorner.
L2 5a 50m Strenuous corner. Belay on 2 bolts.
L3 5c 50m Layback corner (strenuous) with good jams for the feet. Intermediate belay on 2 pegs. Final belay on 2 bolts.
L4 5b 30m Nice climbing up the edge. Broad crack. After the crack traverse to the left into the W face. Belay on 3 pegs.
Variante: after the broad crack continue straight and then to the right (5).
L5 4 50m Climb along broken rocks and finally get to the ridge. Intermediate belay on 2 pegs. Final belay on 2 bolts and 1 pegs.
L6 4 40m Nice slabs. Belay on 2 bolts on the summit ridge.
L7 3 100m Climb along the summit ridge, pass a pinnacle on the left and reach the Pointe de Bayere.

Descent

  • Descend the north side toward the Bochard telecabin station 100m lower.
  • Follow the cable line down to the Lognan station.

An alternative consists to start from the Pointe de Bayere and ascend a series of ridges in order to reach the glacier and the top station of the Grands Montets (grade 3).
