Introduction
The customization of your account uses tabs which are accessed from a selector at the top of the page. When clicking on your user name, tabs are displayed. Each of them allows to configue some functionnalities of your account (topoguide and forum usernames, password, email address, preferred language, activities, regions/massifs, followed users). In the remaining part of this document, the instruction click on 'My preference' means you should click on your username at the top of the page (desnoes in the example below) and then select the 'My preference' tab.
Customizing the language of the interface
It can be done easily using the links at the top right side of the page.
The first time you visit camptocamp, the language of the interface is automatically set to that of your web browser. The setting is conserved in your subsequent visits.
How to connect to camptocamp ?
To log in, you need an account. To create one, click on "Sign in" at the top of the page. Follow the instructions and log in. If the antispam test is difficult ro read, reload the page (press F5) to generate a new test (data will be lost).
Can I change my password? my email? my login?
To change your password or the email linked to your camptocamp account, follow the link to your personal preferences (one of the tabs of the customization tool). The same link allows you to change the name under which you will appear in the guidebook and the forums.
Caution: even if the text seems to be written with capital letters, this is not the case. Please test your login/pwd with lower/upper cases before asking for help.
Customize
Activities, regions, languages
A filter allows you to customize the home and outings' pages. You can choose to filter:
- Languages
- Activities
- Regions (massif, country…)
Using the filter, you can thus customize the home page to only see recent ski outings in English in the massifs around Chamonix or Zermatt.
You can configure your choice by clicking on 'My preferences'.
The filter applies on:
- activity feed in the home page : last creation of outings, routes, waypoints or articles.
- Outings page: activities and regions selected in your preference can be applied by clicking on the button 'Load my preferences'.
But the filter does not apply on :
- All pages : the text search filter at the top of the page
- Home page : messages from the forum. You can customize them (see for help. Waypoints are displayed whatever regions are selected.
- Outings page: the prefered languages are not considered yet in this page.
Follow other members
You can create a list of friends whose activities are interesting for you (eg. outings, creation of routes, specialist of a given activity). You have to click on 'My followed users' to create your list. In the home page, you can decide to only follow the activities of your followed users. You must tick the 'Show only updates from followed users in the homepage feed' box in 'My preference'.
Default filter
The first visit on camptocamp.org configures the filter to display only documents in the web browser language. By default, the site is thus configured for your browsing preferences. This configuration is stored for the next visits, but you can modify it of course.
Filter saving
The filter is stored in the personal preferences and will be used when connected from another computer.
Customizing the language of content when English isn’t available
If a document isn’t available in English (or your preferred language), the website will show one of the available languages on the basis of your language preferences .
When consulting a document (outing, route, article…), a list of link view in other language : french| italian | german| english| spanish| catalan | basque (below the picture in the left column) allows you to switch languages independently from your language preferences. If the document does not exist in english, you are encouraged to translate it. To do so, click on the icon "adjustable spanner" on the right side of the page and then select 'Translate into an other lang'.
See as an example this document Mont-Blanc - Normal route.
Editing my profile
Each user has a personal page (profile). You can access it by clicking on your username at the top of the page. By default, the page shows your latest outings and contributions to the guidebook as well as links to images you have uploaded and the messages you posted on the forum. You can edit your profile (by clicking on “Edit” on the left hand-side menu). You can check out the lay-out possibilities in this article. You can also indicate your geographical coordinates so as to benefit from the site’s mapping tools.
By default, your profile is only accessible to logged-in users (to avoid being indexed by search engines such as Google or Yahoo!). You can choose to make it accessible to anyone through your personal preferences. This can be useful for a club or a professional guide.
In the forum, can I use an avatar or add a signature? Can I hide other people’s avatars and signatures?
You can set these through your “personality” in your personal preferences (see above). Once you are identified, you can select an avatar and/or a signature for your messages. You can also hide other members' signature/avatar. These procedure are detailed in this article.
